Eco-shipping with Grow Ahead
Grow Ahead uses the term "eco-shipping" to distinguish our projects from conventional tree planting projects that claim to provide carbon offsets.
Carbon offsetting broadly refers to reducing greenhouse gas emissions or the act of storing carbon (e.g., through land restoration or the planting of trees), in order to compensate for emissions that occur elsewhere.
However, the agroforestry projects supported by Grow Ahead has benefits that go beyond carbon storage. This includes:
- supporting food sovereignty and food security of local communities
- farmer-to-farmer training in agroforestry methods
- local community empowerment through livelihood generation and community leadership
- long-term soil enrichment
