ABOUT THE PROJECT
Ivory Coast and Ghana produce over ⅔ of the global supply of cocoa. The industrial cocoa sector in West Africa has come under fire for paying unfair prices, leading to child and forced labor, deforestation, and poverty. Climate change has exacerbated the cocoa crisis in recent years, leading to poor harvests.
To support and inspire Ivorian cocoa farmers, KANY is organizing dynamic agroforestry demonstration farms to act as training centers and help rapidly scale out agroforestry in the region. Dynamic Agroforestry (DAF) aims to diversify farmer incomes by implementing ecological designs that are more climate resilient.
The Project Aims to

IN 2016, KANY was founded in Agboville, Ivory Coast, by Louise Topé with a mission to empower women in cocoa farming. KANY recognizes and values women's contributions to farm operations, ensures fair compensation, and even includes women who don't own land. In Ivory Coast, women provide almost 70% of the labor on cocoa farms yet receive only 20% of the income. The KANY cooperative started with just 14 farmers and has since grown to more than 500, covering almost 2500 acres. KANY is certified Organic, Fair for Life, and Regenerative Organic Certified (ROC).
