Community and Carbon Initiative

Take responsibility for your carbon footprint and join a movement for a resilient future.

Climate action is urgently needed. You and an individual or your business can be a part of the solution to climate change. Partnering with small-farmer organizations to replant trees and conserve forest systems, we are able to draw carbon out of the atmosphere in a sustainable and impactful way. Work with Grow Ahead to rebalance the unavoidable impact of your daily activities or your business through supporting reforestation and forest conservation projects.

HOW THE COMMUNITY & CARBON INITIATIVE  WORKS

We work with individuals and companies to calculate the carbon footprint of their activities and then match them to specific agroforestry campaigns to help balance out that carbon footprint.

Grow Ahead partners directly with small-farmer organizations to plant trees in agroforestry systems — which means there are plenty of opportunities to “match” individuals and businesses with reforestation campaigns. The campaigns we support plant trees, income-generating crops like coffee and cocoa, and food together in a food-forest system. These systems allow farmers to restore water and nutrients to their soil, which increases food production and pulls carbon out of the atmosphere.

By joining the Community and Carbon Initiative, you or your business can work toward taking responsibility for your carbon footprint the right way: by enabling a community organization to maintain the reforested areas and create lasting positive effects.

Why community partnerships? Grow Ahead believes in transparency and solidarity with small-scale farmers. We also recognize the need to protect existing forests. That’s why $1 from every offset ton goes to Amazon Watch to support front-line indigenous communities who are fighting to protect the rainforest and the climate.

TAKE ACTION FOR CLIMATE

Trees are one of our best allies in a changing climate. Project Drawdown ranks agroforestry practices such as "Tree Intercropping" and "Multistrata Agroforestry" as the 17th and 28th best ways to sequester greenhouse gas emissions.

CULTIVATE FOOD SECURITY

Agroforestry enables farmers to leave the bulk of their land in agricultural production while growing trees, promoting food security.

TACKLE POVERTY

Farmers plant and maintain trees on their own land and tree nurseries are created, opening up new job opportunities for local communities. Farmers are connected to markets and sustainable harvest plans are designed to provide long-term income.

IMPROVE THE ENVIRONMENT

In addition to pulling carbon out of the atmosphere, trees provide countless environmental services, including improving air quality, preserving and protecting biodiversity, providing habitat for wildlife, supporting a healthy water cycle, and boosting a farm's tolerance to floods and droughts.
